Unified data protection with Azure Information Protection
Microsoft provides cloud-based information protection to documents and emails from their Azure Information Protection Service. Information protection is applied to documents and emails by labels. These labels can be applied manually or automatically, depended label configuration and licensing level.
What problem Azure Information Protection solves?
Simplified answer is when you are share content to outside of your organization, you will lose control of content.
Scenario: You are sharing detailed architecture plan with consultant. Consultant changes company and take plan within to new company and share it to colleagues. Then one colleague shares this plan he’s customer, which is your company tough competitor.
How Azure Information Protection can help for more secure content sharing?
Content can be protected with AIP and only those peoples has access to it’s content whom you share it. Sharing of content, it’s based on email address, so you can share content to people who don’t have AIP license and it will work commonly used devices and operating systems. Content protection is done in background using Azure Rights Management Service “Azure RMS”.
Azure Information Protection has two licensing levels P1 and P2. Main difference between these two licenses is that P2 license enables automatic protection of content.
